Waste dump siteResidents of Esereso in the Bosomtwe District want their waste dumping site relocated for fear of an outbreak of diseases.

They claim the dumping site is very close to the residential area, which is fast closing in to become part of Kumasi. The residents appealed to Mr. Anarfi-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, when he joined the people for the recent National Sanitation Day, to order the relocation of the dumping site in the community.

They also raised concerns about emerging land guards operations. They complained that the land guards are harassing people who have acquired lands in the area, even though they have genuinely acquired them.

Mr. Peter Anarfi-Mensah urged Nananom, stakeholders and opinion leaders to collaborate with the Assembly to acquire a new dumping site, and use the monies they collect from the residents to ensure that refuse is evacuated on a weekly basis to prevent future outbreaks of cholera in the community.

He gave the assurance that his outfit would collaborate with the Ghana Highways Authority to ensure that the drainage system is improved upon. The Minister cautioned the residents to take the National Sanitation Day cleaning exercise seriously to prevent cholera and other communicable diseases.

Mr. Anarfi-Mensah proposed the extension of the sanitation court to all the districts in the country, to ensure that those who flouted sanitation laws are dealt with accordingly to instil discipline in the people, with regards to cleanliness of the environment.
