From Ernest Best Anane, Kumasi
DCOP Kofi Boakye, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, has stressed the importance of the neutrality of the police in enhancing peace and order in the country. He said the objective of the Police Service is to be fair and firm in enhancing peace and order.
The Police Chief said a professional police personnel should remain non-partisan and do his work without fear or favour, in line with their duties, and that such a professional should not at any point in time work under the influence of a political party or any individual.
DCOP Boakye said any police officer whose actions and inactions demonstrate loyalty to a political party or any individual is not worth the police uniform. The occasion was the commissioning of a police station built by Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Asawase constituency, in partnership with Alhaji Nurudeen Hamidan, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Asokore Mampong, at Asawase in Kumasi.
The Police Commander cautioned that anybody who falls foul of the law will be arrested, stressing that only the law is king, and that whoever breaks the law will be dealt with. He pleaded with parents to always serve as guides and counselors to their children, by advising them to desist from criminal activities, in order not to fall victim to the law.
He stated that the law belongs to the public, and that the police administration would always be there to protect and enforce the law for the benefit of the people. He cautioned those who think they are above the law that they would be dealt with, should they fall foul of the law.
According to DCOP Kofi Boakye, political parties would come and go, and so would a police personnel or officer, for which reason no police officer should feel intimidated in the discharge of their duties.
He commended the Municipal Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament for the area for prioritising security issues to complement the police to help eliminate all criminal activities in the area. Alhaji Nuurudeen Hamidan, on his part, appealed to individuals, corporate bodies and other stakeholders to also contribute their quota towards the fight against crime in the municipality.
Alhaji Muntakah Mubarak also commended the Regional Commander for his modern style of policing that has made the region the most peaceful in the country, while daylight robbery in the municipality is now a thing of the past.
MP Mubarak also lauded the MCE for his dedication to duty in ensuring that any fund entrusted into his care to facilitate the development was utilised judiciously. The MP further pledged to provide CCTV cameras for personnel at the station to check corruption on the part of officers on duty.
